National Guard detained regional representative Paúl Elguezabal after an opposition march in Cumaná.

The legislator and leader of Primero Justicia was transported to the Zone 53 headquarters, in the capital of the state of Sucre.

Cumaná.- At 12:30pm, April 20, National Guard officials detained the regional representative for Mesa de la Unidad Democrática (MUD) and leader of Primero Justicia, Paúl Elguezabal, moments after participating in an opposition march in the center of Cumaná.

Elguezabal was intercepted in his car, along with student leaders, according to the adjunct coordinator of MUD in Sucre, Yonni Galindo. He noted that the leader was on his way to help detained students during the clash between the National Guard, the Sucre Police, armed bikers and opposition protesters, at the end of the march of April 19th.

The representative of MUD, Fredis Guzmán, noted that he was on route to Zone 53 of the NAtional Guard to get information about Elguezabal, but he was warned that he would be detained. “The national representative, José Gregorio Noriega, along with leaders of MUD, attended the Detachment”, he affirmed.
